Liturgical Ministries

Altar Servers play a vital role in the worship experience, assisting in the liturgy and helping to create a sacred atmosphere. They:

  • Carry the processional cross and candles during the entrance, Gospel, and recessional processions.
  • Assist the priest and deacon during Mass by holding books, fetching items, and preparing the altar.
  • Servers may occasionally serve at funerals, weddings, and special feast days. They may participate in training and rehearsals or occasionally assist with setting up or cleaning up before and after liturgies.

Communion Ministers, formally known as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, assist in the reverent and timely distribution of the Eucharist during Mass.

  • Ensure everyone has the opportunity to receive
  • Help clean the Chalice, Pyx, or Ciborium after Mass has ended

Gift Bearers carry the unconsecrated bread and wine from the back of the church to the altar during the Offertory.

These gifts represent the offerings of the entire congregation and will become the Body and Blood of Christ during the Eucharistic Prayer.

Ministers of Hospitality help foster a sense of community and belonging.

  • Warmly Greet parishioners and visitors
  • Hand Out Bulletins
  • Direct foot traffic towards parish events and resources
  • Straighten up Church after Mass
  • Fill in for gift bearers if they are unavailable/do not show up

Music ministers serve a vital role in enriching the spiritual atmosphere of the Mass through their gifts of song and instrumental accompaniment.

Lectors play a vital role in the celebration of Mass by proclaiming the Word of God to the parish.

  • The lector proclaims the Sunday readings prior to the Gospel.
  • They will occasionally recite the responsorial psalm
  •  The lector also proclaims the prayers of the faithful after the Creed.

Sacristans are entrusted with the care and preparation of everything needed for the celebration of the Mass. Their ministry is quiet but essential, ensuring that the sacred space and items are ready for worship.

  • Prepare the altar and sanctuary, setting out the chalice, paten, cruets, linens, and liturgical books.
  • Check candles and lamps, ensuring they’re lit and will last through the liturgy.
  • Ensure hosts and wine are available in proper quantity and form.

Medical Safety Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our parishioners during Masses and other parish events. This person’s presence provides immediate response capabilities in case of medical emergencies, helping to maintain a safe and supportive environment.

Parish Safety and Security Volunteers help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all who gather at the church. Responsibilities include monitoring parish grounds during liturgies and events, responding to emergencies, and coordinating with law enforcement or medical personnel when needed. This role also supports the development of safety plans, conducts training for staff and volunteers, and communicates security concerns to parish leadership.
